Spring Shows Up This Week

Well look who finally decided to come join the party. We mentioned it several days ago HERE but it’s looking even more likely today. After one of the coldest starts to the month of April on record, we’ll finally get a brief taste of spring beginning Wednesday and going through Saturday. THE SETUP: A large area of low pressure will develop in the central Plains bringing a surge of warmer, more humid air into the Region. This low will be a slow-mover, allowing us to have multiple days of spring-like warmth before colder air wraps in to begin next week. … Continue reading Spring Shows Up This Week

Snow Kidding, We’re Running Out of Puns To Tell You Snow Is On The Way

Let’s focus on the pattern change later next week that may FINALLY bring us some spring-like air… Ahhh… Okay, now let’s deal with our short term forecast that includes another round of snowflakes late Sunday. Here’s the setup… An area of low pressure will head out of the northern Rockies and will slide southeast from the Dakotas into the Missouri Valley. On the northern periphery of the low, a band of moderate snow will develop well to our west during the day Sunday. This band of snow will progress southeastward as we head into Sunday evening but as we typically … Continue reading Snow Kidding, We’re Running Out of Puns To Tell You Snow Is On The Way

Friday Night Snow Update:

Our anticipated storm system is already developing that narrow band of moisture from Minnesota through Illinois and that trend will continue as it slowly shifts east. Our storm hasn’t shifted much with the latest model runs so our forecast remains the same with a few tweaks to the numbers. Let’s get right to it: REGION WEATHER SNOWFALL FORECAST: Still predicting a non-event for Lake, Porter, and La Porte counties. A few models are hanging on to some snowfall–which could happen–but accumulation isn’t in our forecast. It’ll be a close call. I think Newton and Jasper Counties will see some snow, … Continue reading Friday Night Snow Update:

Major Snow On The Way: Lots of Snow For Some, Very Little For Others

WHAT TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT: Heavy amounts of snow (for some) Friday morning and evening rush hours will be a complete mess   WHAT NOT TO BE CONCERNED OUT: Wind (won’t be a factor) Bitter cold (doesn’t exist with this storm)   THE TIMELINE: THE SETUP OF THIS STORM: The storm system moving into the Region doesn’t have the average “look” to it. It’s not a strong low pressure system we’re tracking from the southern Plains… It doesn’t have a lot of wind with it… It’s not “ominous” looking on radar… Instead, it’s the battle-zone between cold air to the … Continue reading Major Snow On The Way: Lots of Snow For Some, Very Little For Others

White Christmas Chance?

WHITE CHRISTMAS CHANCES, BITTER COLD NEXT WEEK: It’s been great while it lasted. After 5 straight days of above average temps (including a high of 51 degrees in Valparaiso today!), we’re about to get a dose of reality to end December. Let’s talk temps first… ARCTIC AIR RETURNS TO THE US: A large ridge will develop out over the Gulf of Alaska resulting in a large trough over the United States. The result? Arctic air will flood into the US beginning this weekend. Take a look at where the arctic air is late Friday into Saturday: It begins to flow … Continue reading White Christmas Chance?

Intense Band of Lake Effect Snow Possible Saturday

OVERNIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING: A storm system will swing through NW Indiana overnight into the early morning hours Saturday bringing a general light to moderate snow through morning. Overall accumulations will range from an inch or two at best. Winds will increase behind the cold front and this will set the stage for the lake effect snow machine to get cranking… SATURDAY MIDDAY THROUGH EVENING: Lake effect snow will begin to develop midday and may be a bit disorganized for a bit. More than likely the bands will set up in SW lower Michigan into La Porte County. As the … Continue reading Intense Band of Lake Effect Snow Possible Saturday
