Widespread damage from today’s derecho has knocked out power to nearly 300,000 Nipsco customers and has left behind a mess here in the Region. While the cleanup process begins, take a look at the wind we were dealing with today. The Gary Airport leads the way with a nearly 100 mph wind gust–the equivalent of the winds from a category 2 hurricane. Most other area gusts were in the 60-80mph range. Just incredible. The widespread nature of this complex of storms will make cleanup a marathon with the amount of damage in the Region.
