SNOW SQUALL WARNING:
Lake and Porter counties are now under a snow squall warning for a burst of heavy snow producing near whiteout conditions in combination with strong winds.
What’s a snow squall warning you ask? It’s a fairly new product from the National Weather Service that’s used a handful of times a year where quick, typically non-lake effect snow squalls change conditions suddenly.
This squall is settling along and south of US 30 near Merrillville and stretches back towards St. John as it moves east. Not everyone in the warning box will see the burst of snow, but out of precaution the Weather Service has issued this for a wider geographically area.
Prepare for a quick change in road conditions and dangerously visibility within this squall.
