Aurora Chance Tonight

Chances are slim, but there’s a chance. We’re saying there’s a chance! NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) issued a Level G2 Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Saturday and Sunday, noting that a coronal mass ejection (CME) should arrive at Earth this afternoon. (A CME is a large burst of plasma from the Sun’s corona)

This level of storm can also lead to the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) being visible farther south in the U.S. than usual including right here in the Region. We have a wave of clouds that will work in this evening into tonight from the west but there will be plenty of breaks in the cloud cover. You’ll want to get away from city lights to have any chance of seeing them and chances aren’t too great this far south–but again…there’s a chance!
