Matt’s Morning Minute | Explosive Severe Storm Potential Today

Good Thursday morning Region! We have a hot and humid day out ahead of us with highs pushing the upper 80s on a gusty southwest wind this afternoon. A cold front will approach with the potential to pop some explosive thunderstorms over the Region late this afternoon into the evening hours. There’s still some discrepancy on how far south these storms develop. Our model here doesn’t show storms developing very far south into the Region, but there are other solutions that show storms popping right over us and given the amount of energy in our atmosphere–they would be intense in spots with all modes of severe weather possible including:

Damaging wind

Large hail

Very heavy rain

Isolated tornadoes

That being said, it’s not a guarantee we see severe weather today and some spots have the potential to not even see a thunderstorm–but we need to plan for the potential for severe storms this afternoon–here’s the latest:
