Friday Evening Radar Check (8:30pm CT)

Wanted to send out a quick radar update this Friday evening because I know a lot of us are out and about enjoying this warm evening. We mentioned in our Facebook post this afternoon that there is a “cap” in place today, or essentially a lid on the atmosphere that prevents storms from developing. The big question in this setup is always “will the cap erode, when and where?”

So far nothing doing on the radar front as a strong “cap” remains in place overhead with little to no erosion of the cap locally. This lid on the atmosphere keeps any storm activity from developing with just a few showers here and there. You can see where the cap is much weaker over central Lake Michigan where storms have exploded over the last few hours. We’ll continue to keep a close eye on the radar, but for now, that cap is remaining stubborn as denoted by the blue shaded areas we overlayed onto this radar.
