UPDATED DAMAGE REPORTS FROM SUNDAY’S STORMS
Damage was consistent with powerful straight-line winds and not a tornado (many of you have asked). Particularly hard hit was Valparaiso where 70-90 mph winds were likely in spots. An 81mph wind gust was reported at the Porter County Airport from this line!
Newton County EF-0 Tornado:
There was a brief EF-0 tornado near Conrad in rural Newton County, Indiana with peak winds near 75 mph developed near W 600 N about 2 miles west of US Route 41 where it uprooted numerous trees.
Marshall County EF-1 Tornado:
This was the storm we called the warning on before it was issued in Starke County–it ended up producing an EF-1 tornado 2 miles SW of Ancilla College. The tornado tracked 3.3 miles northeast before dissipating and was 750 yards wide.
