WEDNESDAY SNOW UPDATE
Good Tuesday morning everyone! We have some snow on the way tomorrow and we’ve had a few changes overnight with thinking related to this storm system.
1. A bit faster arrival/departure. We’re expecting snow to move in tomorrow morning–still after the morning rush hour. Steady snow should overspread the Region by late morning. We’re expecting the snow to be outbound by evening with lingering snow showers tomorrow night at best.
2. Slightly lower snowfall amounts. Yesterday we were thinking a good 4-8 inches across the Region with some question in our southern counties (Newton, Jasper, and Starke) based on the potential for ice to mix in. With the quicker progression to this system, we’re forecasting 3-6 inches across all of our counties as a switchover to a wintry mix in our southern counties does not look likely now. So in summary–3-6 inches across all of our counties by tomorrow evening.

What to expect: Snow will overspread the Region Wednesday morning with periods of moderate to even heavy snow at times late morning through early afternoon. The snow should begin to back off in intensity and become more scattered by evening with an end to the snow expected Wednesday night into early Thursday. Overall we’re expecting 3-6 inches of snow to fall by evening causing impacts to the evening rush hour. Thursday morning’s commute should be much better with just cleanup from the snow that falls tomorrow.
Wind won’t be much of an issue with this system with gusts over 20 mph possible Wednesday into Wednesday night. This system isn’t a big wind-maker, but some minor blowing and drifting snow is possible in rural areas.
This snow won’t be a super heavy wet snow and it also won’t be a light fluffy snow–it should be right in between with an expected ratio of 10:1 to 12:1 for most of the event.
Overall we’ll get some good snow from this, but we’re still not expecting anything blockbuster–this will be an area-wide snow that we can handle! Just take it slow or avoid travel if you can Wednesday during the day and evening!
