The Week Ahead: Busy Weather Pattern With Ice Potential

ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN AHEAD

Ahh February! As the southern US begins to warm this month and the cold, arctic air still lingers to the north–the battle between these two airmasses can become quite dramatic in February and that will be on full display across the US this week. Widespread 60s and 70s across the Tennessee Valley will contrast to sub-zero arctic air in the northern Plains! In between? The Region. This will put us firmly in place for a series of storm systems over the next week to roll through–the first two this week bringing the potential for some wintry mix and ice.

Notable features for the week ahead:

1. Today: Temp Drop

We’ll spike into the upper 40s and low to mid 50s from north to south before a wind shift off the lake sends our temps crashing into the 30s later this afternoon into the evening.

2. Wednesday: Wintry Mix

The first in a series of storm systems will roll through the Region bringing the threat for a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain before it changes to rain Wednesday night. Wednesday evening commute could be tricky.

3. Thursday: Temp Drop

We’ll do it again with 40s falling pretty quickly into the 20s/30s at some point Thursday.

4. Weekend: Ice Potential

This one’s getting a little far out for specifics, but the potential is there for another storm system to spread snow and a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain our way Saturday. We’ll keep tabs on it!

The extended forecast beyond the next 7 days looks to continue the busy pattern with the potential for more mid-month COLD and several winter storms that will need to be watched. We’d likely be on the snowier side of any of these.

Here’s our forecast for the next 7 days:
