Snow On The Way: A Look At Timing & Impacts

Good Thursday morning everyone! Our next storm system is getting national attention with a large area of 3-8 inches of snow across the upper Midwest today. For us, it won’t be quite as impactful, but it will spread snow back into the Region later today into tonight.

Expect snow to move in late this afternoon into the evening with snow showers continuing on and off tonight. We’re not looking at a lot of snow tonight, but an inch or two is possible by mid-morning Friday with slick spots for that Friday morning commute.

Throughout the day, the low pressure will rotate through the Region with on and off snow showers with a few bursts of snow possible through the afternoon. By Friday evening into Friday night, a band of lake effect snow looks to develop. This will be our biggest concern locally. We could see some decent snowfall rates within this band and impacts could be felt in Lake County, but especially into Porter and LaPorte County later Friday into Friday night. We’ll need to keep a close eye on where this sets up as localized heavy snowfall rates and increasingly gusty winds could make travel tough for some later Friday! Everything should push out with the return to sunshine this weekend.
