Saturday Storms, Atmospheric Smoke Is Back

We’ve had our eyes on a few showers and storms across the Region that have bubbled up in the heating of the day–nothing severe, but a few of these have had some good lightning and downpours with pockets of strong winds. This activity will gradually diminish this evening as we lose our daytime heating. (these aren’t tied to a front, just daytime instability). Below you can see the satellite loop from today showing these storms blowing up high into the atmosphere and then being carried off by the jetstream. Also of note–the atmospheric smoke that’s moving in–the reason for our air quality alerts that will stick with us through our Sunday when haze and air quality could get a bit thicker.
